Curriculum Overview

At Bletchingley Village Primary School, our aim is to provide a curriculum that is broad, balanced, engaging and meaningful for our children. We do this by:

·         Following the National Curriculum 2014

·         Involving the children in planning and leading their learning as often as possible

·         Using an enquiry approach across all subjects

·         Making full use of technology to support both teaching and learning

·         Ensuring a strong focus on learning beyond the classroom

The school curriculum needs to be continuously evolving to meet the needs of every child in a rapidly-changing world and is a particular focus for the new Ofsted framework. We began a review last year, which will be continuing over the course of the next two years, working with children, parents as well as staff from BVPS and the other schools in the Tandridge Learning Trust. Teachers from the Warlingham Secondary School have been particularly helpful both in bringing subject expertise and in supporting a greater understanding of the requirements for Year 7 transition.

The government has also made it clear that the National Curriculum is one element of the whole-school curriculum. Alongside this, we have introduced our Contextual Curriculum which focusses on the development of the whole child. It incorporates elements of PSHE, RSE, Science and Citizenship together with more specific Skills Knowledge and Experiences that stakeholders at the school feel are important for our children. We have developed an assessment and tracking system for this, so that areas of need can be addressed, often using the SEAL programme.

We are a values-led school and we have a strong focus on social, moral, spiritual and cultural education at all times.  You can download documents below to see how the values and SMSC are promoted across the school.

We also have a long-standing Resilience Programme, which helps children to develop resilience in all aspects of their lives.  You can download our Tracker below.  Children who have achieved their Gold level wear a special Penguin badge, and go on to support younger children in order to achieve Platinum.
